15 months

Little girl turned 15 months old 4 days ago and I didn’t get around to posting this until today. Bad Mommy. We went to Sunway Lagoon on the day but pics will only come later k. Here’s some of her milestones:

  • Whenever we open the front door, she will scurry over to her shoes and take a pair to bring to us to put it on her. She understands that she doesn’t need shoes indoor but needs them before going out the door. If we decide to go out the door without her, she will cryyyy and put out her hands for us to pick her up and take her with us.
  • The other day I was helping lil SIL with her maths homework, so I was scratching some stuff with a pencil on a piece of paper. Ayra saw this and scurried over and held out her hand for the pencil I was holding and made a BIG fuss when I wouldn’t hand it over to her. Tsk tsk. She happily doodled some stuff when I finally relented and passed the pencil.
  • She knows that ringing phones are supposed to be picked up. Daddy’s phone rang on the table and she rushed over to pick it up first and straight away tried to have a conversation with whoever on the other side hahahaha.
  • Whenever I return from work, I will go and find Ayra. The moment she sees me, she will flash her big wide smile, drop whatever she’s doing, run over to me, hug my legs and ask me to pick her up for her to gimme a big hug complete with pats on the back hahaha. Warms me up everytime! Best part of the day for me.
  • She mastered the art of fake crying. Hahahaha. The only way to check if she’s really crying is to check for tears!
  • Also mastered the art of imitating. Do anything in front of her and she will be doing it before u know it!
  • She has rejected her porridge. So now, it’s rice and vege+fish soup and whatever other people is having. She eats very little now compared to last month, but at least she’s eating. Sigh. Her weight is going nowhere. She’s been 9kgs for the past 4-5 months now and getting stick thin :(
  • But she snacks more. Her favourite snacks are fish ‘keropok’ or any type of ‘kerepek’ or anything fried. Tsk tsk oily food! She will even go to the jar where it’s stored, open the cover and get it herself! Oh and another fav food is french fries. She will eat one after another non-stop and ask for more the moment the last piece goes in her mouth! She doesn’t like biscuits, I tried buying teddy biscuits and such but she throws them down to the ground after 1 bite. Sheesh.
  • She fake cries when we pretend to be asleep when she’s awake. And she will try to wake u up by repeatedly hitting u on the face, especially the nose. Yes, ganas gila.
  • She squints when she smiles. Until her eyes are reduced to slits. People say she got it from me. I dunno…..
  • She is really starting to talk and communicate. And she can follow some of what we say. We always cut down words into 2 syllables. Ay-ra. Mom-my. Da-ddy. When she gets lazy to follow what we say, she will go mmm-mmm in 2 syllables as well! Cheeky girl!!!
  • Can play on her own for longer periods but we have to keep watching what she does coz she just LOVES dangerous stuff.
  • Starts hating the high chair. When we go out and eat at restaurants, we have to ensure it serves fries. She’s contented to sit quietly while munching on fries. But if there’s nothing for her to eat, she will start fidgeting and ask to be let down for her to potter about. She’s also learning to use cutleries. Some restos provide plates and cutleries for kids and I start to let her self-feed by putting food onto her plate. She knows how to use cutleries, so that’s a start.
  • SIL’s friend from UK came to stay with us. She bribed Ayra by getting her a set of toy cookeries, including pots, pans, plates, bowls, and fork and spoon and knife. Ayra loved her immediately! Even agreed to kiss her on the first day she came tsk tsk. The power of bribes hahaha. What’s more amazing is watching Ayra play with the set. She knows to ’stir’ stuff in the pots using a spoon, and she will come and feed us with the ‘food’ from the plates!!! Simply amazing I must say. She must have been watching the maids cook and feed her hahaha. She will really go to everyone, fetch some food from her plate and shove it in our mouth while saying “nyumenyumenyum”, her word for yummy!
  • She knows Barney! I wanted to get her a water bottle the other day, and she immediately pointed to the Barney bottle when she saw it. I got it for her and at home, she carries the bottle everywhere and pretend to drink from the empty bottle hahahaha.

We are having so much fun with Ayra now… she is so fun to interact with! She learns something new almost everyday and I’m having trouble keeping up with her. I think what I write is just a small fraction of what she’s capable of.

Here’s some pics from our recent trip to Ikea.

More Ayra-nese

I have almost nothing to say this time, but I am itching to post something. Have been busy the past week or so (but lazy, go figure) and time hasn’t been on my side and also the pics was in the pc at home and of course I couldn’t be bothered to update from home kan… baik layan Ayra je…

So what shall we talk about? Let’s tell the story of my little miss chatterbox… she IS a real chatterbox, I kid you not. And she is starting to attempt to follow what we say but most words are still too complicated for her and she can only say repetitions.. examples:

Ayra = Aiiiyah!

Hanna = Anna mostly, sometimes Nanna

Daddy = Dada

Mommy = Mama or sometimes Mom or sometimes Mamamamamama

Roti = Titi

Lampu = is still Papp! I am still curious why..

Tok = Tata

When she gets bored of us making her follow what she say, she will just say some gibberish in ‘Ayra-nese’. Her favorite word so far is Aiiii..kapapap! If only we know what it means. She will say this many many times while doing almost anything… One thing I notice is most of her ‘language’ starts from Aiiii…. Is it coz her name is Ayra?? Hahahahaha.

Now, pics of the little darl….. I have soo many backdated pics!!!

a toy and pictures

I said in my previous previous post that those were the last pictures taken with our D40.. it’s because we now own this…

A D80 with 18-135mm lens :) Out of the blue I came up with the idea of upgrading (no need to go into details la, long story hehehe) and less than a week later, the baby was ours and the D40 was sold off. It served it’s purpose and is now in the hands of hubbs’ friend.

So let’s see what the D80 can do… not that D40 is that bad though, but bear in mind these pics are not edited in any way. I am wayyyy too lazy to be editing pics. I just use them as is hahaha.

Fear Factor

This will be a picture-less entry, coz I just sorta thought about this, following a chat conversation with hubbs. All kids has fears right? Well of course so do Ayra. For a while, we thought she is only afraid of stuffed animals with large eyes coz she will squirm when you put one near her or she will grab it from you and throw it far far away. But this fear doesn’t last long, coz after seeing the same toy for sometime (yes the house has many many weird looking stuffed animals, there are after all 5 girls in hubbs siblings so go figure), she will happily smirk when you try to scare her with it, grab it and start poking the eyes.

What about cats?? Ayra ABSOLUTELY adores cats! I was amused that she is not afraid of them hahaha. Put her near one, she will go to it and try to poke the cat’s face hahah while blabbering. In the end, the cat is more afraid of her. I get afraid for her, afraid the cat will scratch or bite her. Dogs? Nope, not afraid either. Will even try to go near a dog when we take her out for walks. What about the dark?? Not afraid either. She will gladly waddle into a dark room and explore it, and she’s not afraid when we turn off the lights in our room either. But for the record, we do sleep with a night light on, for MY own benefit so I can see Ayra when she wakes up for night feedings.

But the ONE thing that we found out she is afraid of and truly baffles us to this day is……. our little daughter is afraid of FISHES. Yeah u read it right, Ayra is afraid of fishes. HAHAHAHAHHAHA. I have no idea how did this come about. We found out by chance, really. When she was about 8-9 months old, we went to eat at F.atty Crab. As per most seafood restaurants, there is a large aquarium with many large fishes in it. Thinking she’d like watching the fishes, we brought her near it to see the fishes up close. She started squirming hard in our arms and tried to push herself away from the aquarium. Like ok, that is so weird. Why is she intimidated by fishes swimming quietly in the aquarium?? But yeah, she is afraid. Hahaha. Just a week or two ago, again we went to a restaurant with an aquarium in it. And we tested her fear again. This time she squirmed HARDER and even made ’scared’ noises. But when we took her a safe distance away from the aquarium, she will turn to look at the fishes. Like, takut tapi nak tengok. Hahahaha.

To this day, it amuses me to no end that of all the things in the world, she chose to be afraid of a harmless fish. Tsk tsk. We’re so gonna work on trying to get her past her fears. Looks like we can’t take her to Aquaria anytime soon, else she will be paralyzed with fear!

What about your kids, or even yourselves when you were kids? What are they/you afraid of??

Ayra at 14 months

Time certainly flies when you’re having fun… my little girl is 14 months old today… Her development is simply amazing to me… seems like some skills she learnt overnight! Let’s see what she’s capable of (and how many of those developments her mommy can remember)

  • She suddenly decided that crawling is so yesterday. One day she still prefers to crawl at lightning speed, the next day she is suddenly walking all over the place! And getting sooo fast and sooo good at it. I now know what those parents mean by chasing after their toddlers. One minute she’s in front of me and the next minute she’s gone and I have to run all over the place to check where she is and what she’s up to! She still walks a bit funnily, with her hands out at the side like an ‘orang utan’, but is improving everyday. I wanna take a video of this phase before she starts to walk proper hehe.
  • She has learnt to push and pull doors that are not closed properly. This also means that she could be in the room one second and gone the next. I am always always worried she will ’sepit’ her fingers at the door and of course this has happened many times when she got confused to whether pull or push the door open. She also learnt to knock on doors that is closed. She will knock while shouting for you to open it for her hahaha.
  • She babbles non-stop! My goodness gracious my lil girl is one chatterbox! The only time she’s quiet is when she’s asleep. When I return home from work all I have to do is stand at the door to see where her voice is coming from to know where she is. She has her own language and we call it “Ayranese”. She’s not talking yet, but she has assigned some ‘words’ to things we say. Lampu=papp; hello=wawaw; bye2=babab, says ‘nahh’ when handing us stuff and so on so forth. She can have pretend conversations on the phone, where she will pick up our phones and start babbling into it. She can also tell stories and it is so amusing to watch!!! She will stand in front of us and start babbling in her language, complete with animated hand gestures and face expressions. I should take a video of this soon.
  • She can associate many things now. Like how she will pick up her shoes, pull the straps open and try hard to put it on her feet. Yes, like lil Gib, she loves wearing shoes in the house too. The moment we put on her shoes, she will get up and start walking all over the place. She knows hair bands are for hair, she will take mine and try to put it on herself, her mommy and even her daddy’s head hahaha. Neckties are for necks, and will try to wear her daddy’s ties. One thing I am simply amazed at is how one day she reached for a pencil, took a piece of paper and started scribbling on it!!! I gaped in amusement! She must have been watching her school-going aunts and uncle do their homework.
  • Has her own preference. Starts to show a bit of tantrum too. Sometimes, she wants to be carried all the time, put her down and she will scream her head off. Sometimes, she wants to get down when you carry her. Starts to dislike her stroller since she prefers to walk or be carried.
  • Starting to be like a little ‘makcik’ too. She has this box with a handle that holds 3 hard books inside. She loves to carry the box around like a handbag and walk all over the place. She will walk, stop a while, put the box down and play with something but she won’t forget to take the box with her when she continues her journey hahaha. So cute! And when she wants to reach for something that is quite high, she will put the box down, step on it for the extra height and reach over. Tsk tsk.
  • Loves to press buttons! Be it the remote (and is also smart enough to point the remote to the tv while pressing the buttons), our handphones, or even the camera! We are always afraid she will accidentally delete her pics!
  • Smart enough to know that you can see the pics at the back of the camera. After we snap her pics, she will walk over and peer over our shoulders to see the screen at the camera. Hehehehe.
  • Still puts stuff in her mouth after she’s tired of ‘belek’-ing it. When does this phase stop la??
  • Loves to ’sayang’ people. But her ’sayang’ is still with an open mouth over your cheek/nose/eyes, whichever is closer. It comes with a sound too! When I say ’sayang mommy/daddy/auntie/uncle’ she will lean over, say “ooo” with her mouth open, give u a bit of saliva then grin her toothy smile. She squints when she smiles and her large eyes will be reduced to slits! Hahahahaha.
  • Finally is interested in the tv! She can watch cartoons now, though still not the whole show. But the tv is enough to keep her glued to her seat to finish her food, so anything goes la. Sometimes, her eyes will be at the tv even though she’s being carried out of the room! Goodness, I think she’s catching Uncle Amir’s disease of becoming a tv addict!

I can’t remember any more now, though I am quite sure there was soooo many developments. Such things always happens when you try to write them down huh! Anyways, I’m gonna leave you with some pics of Ayra, last ones taken with our D40 :)
